Today, last year, I traveled to Mendocino, California for a reading at the Gallery Bookshop. I read with poets, Maureen Eppstein, Luiza Flynn-Goodlett, and Judy Halebsky in promotion of the CALYX Summer 2012 issue.
CALYX is a gorgeous and monumental journal. For over 36 years, it has offered “a place in print to many important women writers and artists first or early in their careers… It was the first to publish the artwork of Frida Kahlo in color in the U.S., and presented the first English translations of Nobel Laureate poet Wislawa Szymborska.”
Looking at this photo, I feel deeply nostalgic for the redwoods, the vineyards, that restful weekend at Maureen’s and Tony’s blue house, and for their unforgettable sweetness and hospitality.
